M. Tech: Chiro (R.S.A.)
“My considerable experience as a Chiropractor has taught me two things. Remain current with the latest advances in back care and take the time to listen and understand the unique need of each patient”
Dr Gary Backlund graduated in South Africa in 1999 after completing a six-year master's degree in Chiropractic (M.Tech Chiro). He is a member of the General Chiropractic Council - the body charged with regulating Chiropractors.
Gary has over 20 years' experience of which 15 years have been in Canary Wharf, making him a specialist of issues experienced by work and desk-based professionals.
Over the years he has forged a strong relationship with local GPs and orthopaedic consultants (some of whom are his patients). Gary attends many educational events as both a participant and lecturer. This allows him to be at the forefront of current clinical knowledge and latest treatment advances.
Gary’s specialist areas include spinal and joint conditions, disc decompression, postural analysis and correction, neuralgia (trapped nerves and sciatica), myalgia (muscle pain), shoulder pain (rotator cuff impingement), knee pain and pregnancy related issues.
Gary uses a number of different techniques, some of which are osteopathic and physiotherapy in nature. These include deep tissue massage, dry needling, manipulation of the spine and joints (Diversified), SOT (Sacral Occipital Technique) and Y -Strap traction.
Gary recognises the importance of postural correction, rehabilitation, diet and exercise advice in his goal of taking patients out of pain and to their optimal health.
Outside of work Gary spends most of time exercising. His time is spent between his two passions, CrossFit and bodyweight Calisthenics.
When he is not exercising Gary can be found reading, travelling, and hiking, often in his happy place, the Lake District.

Gary has been looking after me for a number of years and I feel he is essential to my good health regime. Working in an office and hot desking for years I suffered with neck and shoulder problems which he sorted. Thanks to Gary I’ve recovered faster from a fractured knee earlier this year. I see Gary every month and although I no longer work in Canary Wharf I’m happy to travel to see him. I have no hesitation in recommending Gary and his colleagues.

Jacob believes in giving his patients his full attention, pin-pointing the likely cause of their issue in a thorough and logical manner. A high precedent is taken to treat each patient as an individual to allow them to get the most out of their care and reach their specific goals, and of course this will be achieved by excellent communication between both practitioner and patient.
Jacob will incorporate many different treatment methods and will choose the most appropriate for each individual case, meaning more emphasis can be placed on certain techniques depending on the nature of the issue (muscular, joint, nerve, disc). His chiropractic techniques follow the diversified approach and will involve joint mobilisation, manipulation or adjustments. Other focuses of management will involve trigger point therapy, nerve mobilisation, dry needling (acupuncture), exercise instruction and prescription, stretches, daily habit guidance and postural advice.
Jacob is also proficient in treating some of the most common (and painful) conditions such as sciatica, disc bulges, nerve impingements and sprains/strains.
Jacob graduated from the AECC university college in Bournemouth with his master’s degree after five intense years. These years involved studying all aspects of the body, some examples include anatomy, exercise coaching, ethical practice and manual therapies such as joint manipulation and massage.

Amazing! Just visited for the first time after not having had the chance to visit a chiro in years and had an excellent session with Stavros, who dealt with a whole array of muscular tension and issues. Walked out feeling like a brand new person!! Will definitely be back on a regular basis and can't recommend him enough.

As a massage therapist, I can testify to the influential benefits that deep tissue and fascia can have on patients suffering from conditions such as arthritis and musculoskeletal issues. The knowledge that I have gained hugely beneficial. I now analyse the body more in-depth, observing how the body is functioning finding out any predisposing and maintaining factors contributing to the area of concern.
I am qualified in sport massage level 3, deep tissue and variety of holistic massage styles.
Techniques I use are soft tissue release, myofascial release, neuromuscular therapy, articulation- gentle rhythmic joint movement, muscle energy techniques.
Outside of work I attend the gym working on strength training, also regularly attend reformer Pilates classes which I hope to qualify in, combining it with Osteopathy.
