Gary Backlund

M. Tech: Chiro (R.S.A.)

“My considerable experience as a Chiropractor has taught me two things. Remain current with the latest advances in back care and take the time to listen and understand the unique need of each patient”

Dr Gary Backlund graduated in South Africa in 1999 after completing a six-year master's degree in Chiropractic (M.Tech Chiro). He is a member of the General Chiropractic Council - the body charged with regulating Chiropractors.

Gary has over 20 years' experience of which 15 years have been in Canary Wharf, making him a specialist of issues experienced by work and desk-based professionals.

Over the years he has forged a strong relationship with local GPs and orthopaedic consultants (some of whom are his patients). Gary attends many educational events as both a participant and lecturer. This allows him to be at the forefront of current clinical knowledge and latest treatment advances.

Gary’s specialist areas include spinal and joint conditions, disc decompression, postural analysis and correction, neuralgia (trapped nerves and sciatica), myalgia (muscle pain), shoulder pain (rotator cuff impingement), knee pain and pregnancy related issues.

Gary uses a number of different techniques, some of which are osteopathic and physiotherapy in nature. These include deep tissue massage, dry needling, manipulation of the spine and joints (Diversified), SOT (Sacral Occipital Technique) and Y -Strap traction.

Gary recognises the importance of postural correction, rehabilitation, diet and exercise advice in his goal of taking patients out of pain and to their optimal health.

Outside of work Gary spends most of time exercising. His time is spent between his two passions, CrossFit and bodyweight Calisthenics.

When he is not exercising Gary can be found reading, travelling, and hiking, often in his happy place, the Lake District.

Gary has been looking after me for a number of years and I feel he is essential to my good health regime.  Working in an office and hot desking for years I suffered with neck and shoulder problems which he sorted.  Thanks to Gary I’ve recovered faster from a fractured knee earlier this year.  I see Gary every month and although I no longer work in Canary Wharf I’m happy to travel to see him.  I have no hesitation in recommending Gary and his colleagues.

Jacob Garrad

M. Chiro (D.C.)

Jacob graduated from the AECC university college in Bournemouth with his master’s degree after five intense years. These years involved studying all aspects of the body, such as anatomy, pathophysiology, general medicine, neurology, exercise coaching and many different forms of manual therapy.

Jacob believes in treating each patient as an individual with their own specific goals in mind. Good communication is crucial as part of each patient's management and this will start at the initial assessment to help narrow down a likely diagnosis for the current issue, as well as during ongoing treatment to help make sure progress is being made and goals are being met.

Jacob incorporates many different treatment methods and will choose the most appropriate for each individual case, this means more emphasis can be placed on certain approaches depending on the nature of the issue but often a combination of different techniques will be used for the benefit of the patient.

His main techniques and approaches are as follows:

  • Joint mobilisation, manipulation or adjustments (Diversified technique)

  • Soft tissue mobilisation (massage)

  • Blocking (orthopaedic and SOT)

  • Trigger point therapy

  • Dry needling (acupuncture)

  • Postural advice (corrective habit changes, stretching, relief positions)

  • Nerve mobilisation

  • Corrective exercise instruction and coaching

Common conditions that Jacob can help treat and manage include:

  • Spinal, joint or muscular pains

  • Disc bulges

  • Nerve compression (like sciatica)

  • Tennis/golfers elbow

  • Headaches and migraines

  • Carpal tunnel

  • Shin splints

Amazing! Just visited for the first time after not having had the chance to visit a chiro in years and had an excellent session with Stavros, who dealt with a whole array of muscular tension and issues. Walked out feeling like a brand new person!! Will definitely be back on a regular basis and can't recommend him enough.
